Goodbye Oamaru

Sookie at rest

Dear Oamaru, thanks for the great company, our first penguin sightings, my first attempt to learn poker, whisky tastings, cute dogs & cats, and all the good moustache spotting.

We spent a little time exploring a cemetery teeming with history. I enjoyed seeing all the texture and lettering on the old stones.

Many of the original headstones in the Oamaru cemetery are made of local limestone, leading to some interesting erosion patterns. One headstone even appeared to have fallen over because of an eroded base.

On our last day in Oamaru, we visited Retro Funk, a crazy little place I would call part shop, part museum. I can be a cheapskate about a lot of things, but this place made me want to spend money. If you're ever in Oamaru, check it out.

I'm so glad we extended our stay in Oamaru from 2 days to 4!
